
THE RYA
The RYA is Britain’s national body for all forms of boating including dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIB’s and sports boats, powerboat racing, windsurfing, inland cruising and narrow boats, and personal watercraft.
With headquarters on England’s South Coast, the RYA has 103,000 personal members and 1,500 affiliated clubs and classes. It campaigns actively on members’ behalf and represents their interests on over 50 statutory and consultative committees in the UK and internationally.
RYA training has a worldwide reputation and is taught through a network of 2,250 RYA-recognised training centres as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Indonesia and the USA. Professional users include the Royal Navy, RNLI, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the MoD, the Police and the Fire Service.
The RYA administers the international racing rules of sailing and windsurfing in the UK, and the sport of power boating. It’s coaching and development schemes support over 600 sailors, from talented juniors to World Champions. Sailing is Britain’s most successful Olympic sport, while Britain is currently the world No.1 sailing nation.
Personal membership benefits include dedicated craft and travel insurance, free legal and general advice, and a range of membership discounts. Affiliated clubs have access to free expert advice on a wide range of issues and can make use of dedicated club insurance arrangements
The RYA publications list features over 80 books, while the quarterly membership magazine, RYA Magazine, has the biggest circulation of any UK boating title.
